Lee Roy Selmon's history combines the benefits of football family scholarship and community service. The first family is his youngest of nine children born to Lucious and Jessie Selmon raised on a farm in Eufala, Oklahoma. In football, he played along with three brothers in Oklahoma. The three brothers were all All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's finest lineman. Oklahoma won two National Championships over his three-year tenure as the player of the team. Selmon was given a second scholarship in 1975 and named as an National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon earned his diploma in education. Lee Roy spent ten hours per week volunteering in his college days. Following college, he moved to Tampa and played for nine seasons with the Buccaneers was all-pro three times, and began a business career. In 1988, he joined the ranks of an account relations officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He as well worked for the following organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 The Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized Lee Roy as one of the 10 of America's most outstanding young men. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 lbs when he played college football. In 1975, he commanded the team. Lee Roy joined the University of South Florida in 1993 as an director of athletics as an associate. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988. He was also named to the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, and then the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989 the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded its Distinguished American Award Mr. Lucious Senior. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor who presented this award.
